April 2007 - Florence & Rome, Italy - Amy & Joe's Honeymoon

We were thrilled to play tourguide to my oldest friend Amy and her new husband Joe. We were able to spend some time with them in Florence and then a couple of days later in Rome.

We started our day with lunch at La Giostra. The white truffle carbonara gave us all the strength we needed for a quick tour of Florence. La Giostra is right around the corner from Il Duomo so we took this shot with Giotto's tower right after lunch.
From the Duomo we headed to Piazza della Republicca. We took them to Il Mercato Del Cinghiale to rub the wild boar's snout for luck. We crossed the Ponte Vecchio stopping to peek in the jewelry shops and to look up the Arno.
Then across the Ponte Delle Grazie for great views of the Ponte Vecchio. And then we deposited them back at Santa Croce where they took their bus back to the cruise ship. We promised to give them a similar tour of Rome a couple of days later.

Here is Kenny getting into trouble while we wait for Amy & Joe at Piazza Navona.

Here is the happy couple, clearly intrigued by Kenny explanation of the construction of the Pantheon.

We're still impressed by the whole in the dome.

We headed from the Pantheon to the Capitoline hill for views into the Roman Forum. Amy & Joe seemed impressed, but . . .

we just couldn't keep Amy off the beer. Then we headed to Trastevere stopping on Ponte Garibaldi for a picture of the Tiber with St. Peter's in the background.

We ended our day with a much needed drink at Campo dei Fiori - a square full of American themed bars.

That evening, we took them for a walk from Piazza Navona past the Pantheon which is spectacular when all lit up. We had a wonderful time with the honeymooners and we hope they found us to be good tour guides.
