From Lake Como, in the Lombardia region of Italy, we took a train east to Trentino-Alto Adige (Sudtirol), the German-speaking region of Italy that used to be part of Austria before World War II, after which the borders were redrawn to include the region within Italy.
The ride was amazingly scenic, curving through vineyards surrounded by the dramatic mountain range adjacent to the Alps, the Dolomites.
